Make the Most of Natural Light in Transitional Areas
By the Maurvia team · October 11, 2026 · 1 min read · Energy
Hallways, entryways, and stairwells are areas where the light often stays on during the day purely out of habit, even if there's natural light coming in from other rooms.
Let the Light In
- Open interior doors of rooms with windows that face the hallway.
- Pull back curtains and raise blinds during the day.
- Keep glass and windows clean: dust and dirt reduce light.
- Keep areas where light enters clear, without tall furniture in front of windows.
Colors and Mirrors
Light-colored walls reflect light better. A well-placed mirror opposite a window or door can also help natural light reach further.
When It Gets Dark
- Only turn on lights where needed.
- Turn off lights when leaving an empty room.
- Never compromise on visibility: on stairs and in hallways, moving safely is paramount, especially if there are children or elderly people at home.
A Small Daily Habit
Noticing which lights are on unnecessarily is a small habit that fits in with your organization at Maurvia.
