Check Your Refrigerator Gasket
By the Maurvia team · October 12, 2026 · 1 min read · Home
The refrigerator door gasket, or seal, has an important job: to keep the cold inside. If it doesn't seal properly, outside air gets in and the appliance has to work harder.
The Paper Test
This is a common home check:
- Open the door and place a sheet of paper between the gasket and the frame.
- Close the door on the paper.
- Gently pull on the paper.
- If it slides out without any resistance, check that area.
Repeat the test at several points: top, bottom, and sides.
Other Signs
- Ice or frost accumulating near the door.
- Gasket visibly cracked, deformed, or detached.
- The door doesn't close on its own or bounces open.
How to Care for It
- Clean it occasionally with a damp cloth and water with a little mild soap.
- Dry it thoroughly afterwards.
- Prevent items on the shelves from stopping the door from closing completely.
If It Needs Replacing
If the gasket is damaged, consult the manufacturer's manual or technical service to replace it with one compatible with your model.
