Keep Vents Clear
By the Maurvia team · October 12, 2026 · 1 min read · Energy
Refrigerators, ovens, televisions, routers, computers, and other devices need space to expel the heat they generate. If their vents are covered, the device may operate under suboptimal conditions.
What usually blocks the vents
- Boxes, bags, or cloths resting on top or behind.
- Devices snugly fitted into furniture without sufficient clearance.
- Dust accumulated over time.
- Curtains falling over devices or radiators.
Quick check around the house
- Refrigerator: Check the clearance from the wall indicated in the manual and ensure the back isn't full of dust.
- Oven and microwave: Ensure air vents are not covered by objects.
- TV, router, and consoles: Make sure they are not enclosed or covered.
- Computers: Ensure side or rear vents are clear.
How to clean safely
- Unplug the device beforehand, when instructions indicate.
- Use a dry cloth, a soft brush, or a vacuum cleaner with the appropriate attachment.
- Do not use water or liquid products directly on the vents.
- Always follow the manufacturer's manual instructions.
Leave the space the manufacturer requests
The manual usually indicates the minimum clearance each device needs. Respecting this is simple and helps it operate as intended.
