Organize Your Fridge by Date
By the Maurvia team · October 10, 2026 · 1 min read · Food
What gets pushed to the back of the fridge is what's most easily forgotten. And what's forgotten often ends up in the trash. A simple date-based organization helps you use what you've already bought.
When Storing Groceries
- Place items that expire soonest at the front.
- Put the newest items at the back.
- If you buy something you already had, place the new one behind the old one.
A Weekly Check-Up
Choose one day a week, for example, before making your shopping list, and check:
- Which products expire in the next few days.
- What leftovers you have and when they were made.
- What you have duplicates of.
A "Use First" Corner
Reserve a shelf or a box for products that should be consumed soon. This way, when you open the fridge, you know where to start.
Leftovers, Labeled
Store leftovers in appropriate containers and label them with the date. Avoid opaque, unlabeled containers: they're the first to be forgotten.
Expiration Date vs. Best Before Date
They are not the same. Always respect the expiration date; the best before date indicates until when the product maintains its optimal quality. When in doubt, follow the instructions on the packaging.
Everything More Accessible
If you record your purchases in Maurvia, everything will be more accessible for planning.
Guidance only. Always check each product's label and your appliance manufacturer's manual.
